Malala: abducted Nigerian girls are my sisters

Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban, said Wednesday she sees the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist militants in Nigeria as her sisters. Malala Yousafzai Speaking on CNN, Malala said the extremist group Boko Haram behind the mass abduction does not understand Islam and has not studied the Koran. “They are actually misusing the name of Islam because they have forgotten that the word islam means ‘peace,’” Malala said. She added: “When I heard about the girls in Nigeria being abducted I felt very sad and I thought that my sisters are in prison and I thought that I should speak up for them.” Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman in 2012 over her outspoken views on education for girls in her home region of northwest Pakistan. After undergoing extensive medical treatment, she now lives in Britain. Malala told CNN that Boko Haram’s acts were appalling. “How can one imprison his own sisters and treat them in such a bad way?” she said, referring to the group’s threats to sell the girls into slavery. “They have not studied Islam yet, they have not studied the Koran yet and they should go and learn Islam,” she said. Several countries have offered their help to Nigeria to find the girls, whose abduction has prompted an international outcry.

Schoolgirls abduction: Northern Governors’ Forum welcomes U.S. offer of military assistance

The Northern Governors’ Forum on Wednesday welcomed the U.S. government’s offer of military assistance to Nigeria to help locate and rescue the over 200 schoolgirls abducted in Chibok, Borno. The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger, Dr Babangida Aliyu, expressed the forum’s position at a meeting on Wednesday night in Abuja between some select Northern governors and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajah Shah. The visiting top U.S. envoy hosted the governors at the residence of the Mission Director of USAID in Nigeria, Michael Harvey, in Maitama, Abuja. Aliyu told the U.S. official that the April 14 abduction happened in a part of the country “where up till today we still beg parents to bring their children to school”. ‘`For the abduction to happen in a school environment means that if we do not do anything, we will be taken fifty years back, because many parents would be discouraged to send their children to school. “So we welcome the participation and assistance of the American government to ensure that we are able to get this children back alive and for us to have more secure environment.’’ The forum’s chairman thanked USAID for concentrating many of its programmes in the north, especially in the health sector and girl-child education. He said the meeting was a follow-up to the meeting held in March in Washington D.C. between U.S. officials and the governors, which centered on security issues and development of the region. “People should understand that when we talk about security, it is not normally about the bullet and the guns; security is about the welfare of people,” Aliyu said. Earlier, Shah expressed deep sympathy for the families of the kidnapped girls and reiterated President Barrack Obama’s commitment to help find the missing girls. Boko Haram, through its leader Abubakar Shekau, had claimed responsibility for taking the girls. According to the Nigeria police, 53 of the girls have managed to escape from the captors while 223 of them are still missing. Meanwhile, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, had later told reporters that he held discussions earlier on Wednesday afternoon with some Nigeria security officials on what the “U.S. team might look like”. “Obviously I cannot share out those details but we are in the process of putting together a team that we think will respond to what your security officials had told me you need,’’ he said. The ambassador said the team would be in Nigeria shortly and did not provide further details on the composition of the inter-agency team offered by the U.S. government. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governors Umaru Tanko Al-mukara (Nasarawa), Idris Wada (Kogi), Mukhtar Yero (Kaduna) , Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Acting governor of Taraba Garba Umar attended the meeting. Others are the Deputy Governors of Jigawa, Kano and Benue, Ahmed Gumel, Dr Umar Ganduje and Stephen Lawani, respectively as well as the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Tijani Kaura. Prof Ade Adefuye, Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S., also attended the meeting which went into closed-door by 9.00 p.m. (NAN)

Last-ditch diplomacy as Ukraine fighting spreads

(AFP) – Western powers on Wednesday launched a desperate last-gasp drive for a diplomatic solution to stop Ukraine sliding into civil war, as fighting spread closer to the Russian border. The head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Swiss President Didier Burkhalter, was to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin after Moscow quashed a German-led plan for new peace talks. And Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague held talks in Kiev, as the Western-backed government there stepped up its military offensive to seize back a string of eastern towns and cities under the control of pro-Russian gunmen. On the ground, local media reported that Ukrainian security forces had “liberated” the town hall in the port city of Mariupol near the Russian border. Explosions and gunfire were also heard overnight in the flashpoint eastern town of Slavyansk, an AFP reporter there said, as the military advanced on rebel-held positions in the centre of what has become a hotbed of separatist activity. Authorities there claim to have killed more than 30 rebels in a relentless assault on the city. But they have also lost at least nine personnel and three helicopter gunships in the battle with well-armed separatists. The Russian flag that used to fly over the town hall has been taken down and rebels said they could either stay in the barricaded building they have held for several weeks or abandon it as the situation demands. Nearly 90 people have died in less than a week in military operations or clashes between pro-Russians and supporters of Ukrainian unity, leading French President Francois Hollande to warn of “chaos and the risk of civil war”. Germany too has said it fears an all-out military conflict, as Putin weighs whether to launch an invasion with the estimated 40,000 troops he has stationed on the border. - ‘Bogus’ referendum looms - With relations between Moscow and the West plumbing depths not seen since the end of the Cold War, the United States and Russia continued to trade barbs as the clock ticked towards an independence referendum planned in eastern Ukraine on May 11. US Secretary of State John Kerry dismissed the vote as “bogus” and drew parallels with a referendum in Crimea that was annexed by Russia in March. “This is really the Crimea playbook all over again, and no civilised nation is going to recognise the results of such a bogus effort,” Kerry told reporters. “We flatly reject this illegal effort to further divide Ukraine.” The West accuses Russia of stoking tension to destabilise the former Soviet republic ahead of planned presidential elections on May 25 — which Moscow says would be “absurd” to hold amid the current unrest. Both Ukraine and Russia accuse each other of “fascism” amid fears of fresh violence on Friday when the two countries prepare to mark the Soviet victory in World War II. Putin will oversee a display of Russia military might in the iconic Red Square while celebrations will be more muted in Kiev amid fears of pro-Russian “provocation”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted as saying on Wednesday that “Europe has been turning a blind eye to how fascism has been gaining new supporters”. He demanded a full investigation into the deaths of 42 people in the southern city of Odessa on Friday, most of them pro-Russian militants who died in a horrific building fire as they traded petrol bombs with pro-Kiev demonstrators. “What happened in Odessa on May 2 is pure fascism,” said Lavrov. OSCE chief Burkhalter has urged a ceasefire on the ground to allow elections to take place as diplomats scramble to resuscitate a peace deal clinched last month that called for armed groups to abandon their positions in the east. Speaking after a meeting with around 30 European foreign ministers in Vienna on Tuesday, Lavrov said a second peace meeting would be a waste of time without also including the separatists. - Sectoral sanctions - The West has warned Moscow it will step up sanctions on Russia’s recession-threatened economy if it continue to sow chaos in its western neighbour. US President Barack Obama has warned the sanctions will be broadened to include whole sections of Russia’s economic activity. US sanctions against Moscow over the escalating unrest have taken a toll on the Russian economy, Daniel Glaser, the US Treasury assistant secretary for terrorist financing, told a hearing in Congress. The limited sanctions so far in place have stimulated a heavy capital flight from Russia, hobbled a bank close to Putin and taken economic growth to near zero, he said.

Suspected kidnapper set ablaze in Lagos

LAGOS — A woman accused of an attempt to kidnap three primary school pupils in Ekoro area of Abule-Egba, Lagos was yesterday set ablaze by an angry mob. The incident occurred barely 24 hours after two primary school pupils were rescued from a suspected kidnapper at Ile-epo area of Egbe. Report said the three pupils, two males and a female, whose ages were put between seven and 10 years, were on their way to school at about 7 a.m when the unnamed woman accosted them on a pretense that she was taking them to school. But a female hawker said to have suspected her moves reportedly alerted bystanders along Ekoro Road who challenged the woman. Eye witnesses said the woman claimed the children were hers, but the names she called them differed from those the children gave. Eye witnesses further said the direction the woman was taking the children to was not that of the school the children attend. According to an eye witness, who gave his name as Chionye, “All the responses she gave were contrary to that given by the pupils. “When asked of the name of the school, she had to strain her eyes to see if she could read it from the badge on the children’s school uniform. When we asked the pupils if they knew her, they shook their heads. “It was at that point that a man from the crowd that had gathered round her said the woman parked her car somewhere around the direction she was taking the children. “Not satisfied with her explanation, the mob was said to have descended on her, in the process of which she was set ablaze before the arrival of policemen. The incident reportedly caused a hitch in the free flow of traffic. Effort to get the reaction of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, failed as she could not be reached on phone. Meanwhile, effort by another woman to kidnap two primary school pupils, Monday, at Ile-epo area of Egbe was foiled by passers-by. Report said the woman had succeeded in abducting the children and took them under the bridge and was making calls to some unknown person that she had found some ‘goods’ when she was apprehended. Passers-by among whom was one Colonel Adeniran, reportedly kept the woman hostage before the arrival of policemen from Ejigbo division. Sources at the division said investigation was ongoing. The arrest brings to fore, five cases of foiled kidnap attempt in two weeks.

Prophet TB Joshua Delivers Notorious Drug Baron

National Liberian newspaper, ‘The New Republic’ has recounted an uncanny story of how one of Liberia’s most notorious drug lords by the name of Emmanuel Fahnbulleh gave up his criminal activities after praying with Nigeria’s Prophet T.B. Joshua on his highly popular television station, Emmanuel TV. Ironically, it was a Nigerian who introduced him to the shady business 18 years ago, just as it was a Nigerian who was used by God to rescue him. Here is the full report: In a rather unruffled and undisturbed state of mind, Emmanuel Fahnbulleh divulged his long-running obsession with being one of Liberia's most dangerous and feared drug dealers, distributors and users. Fahnbulleh, who said he is now converted, has been in the field of selling drugs of all sorts to Liberians for eighteen years before God arrested and transformed him. His case is similar to that of Saul who was arrested on the road to Damascus and transformed to an abiding believer of the Lord. Yesterday, Fahnbulleh told Power TV's phone-in talk show how bad he was during his drug-dealing spree, bragging that he was matchless in his field. But as conscience is said to be a judge of every man, so the converted drug dealer realised his errors and offered a heartfelt apology to the nation and those who might have been affected in one way or the other by his drug dealing activities... "I want to first of all in this public manner apologize to the nation, my brothers and sisters out there who my drug deals might have affected in any way, to go against one another in the homes. I have been one of the major, major, major contributors of that problem," he said in a very unassuming manner. Fahnbulleh, who provided historical background about how he got baptised into drug dealing, said it was a Nigerian national who wooed and changed him into one of Liberia's most feared dealers. "It all started in 1996, just before the April 6 crisis, when I came across my own satan. This Nigerian fellow I met that day was my own of encounter with the devil, because he was like my devil," he said, while at the same time distancing himself from having any physical contact or interaction with the devil. He said he called the Nigerian 'devil' because his intervention in his life thwarted his academic brightness as an upcoming student in the community. "When this guy came in the community, he came across me and called me to come. He said to me, 'You are a smart kid; you can push this thing'. He gave me the first 10 kilograms of cocaine. At that time, my brother, you could not sell 5 grams of cocaine in Liberia a day because it was not easy," Fahnbulleh divulged. In spite of the roughness and hardness of the market at the time for reasons he did not say, he noted that he was able to distribute at least 60 grams of cocaine every day. Through the grace of God, the self-proclaimed drug pusher explained he is now a Christian and worshipping with the Trinity Healing Temple of Jesus Christ, which is led by Mother Esther B. Davies.
Fahnbulleh, who also explained how his conversion came about, said, "It was around the month of April, about the 23rd, 24th this year when one of my friends came by and said to me, 'Emma, why can't you watch this TV station of Pastor T.B. Joshua (Emmanuel TV)? You might get something from there." In a rather rushed fashion, he said he tuned to the TV station and the first thing he saw was the man of God praying for viewers. He heard T.B. Joshua say, "I command whatever that is in you that is not of God to come out right now!" At that moment, Fahnbulleh said his entire life dramatically changed. "I could not do anything; I did not know what I was doing at that moment." Right away, he explained further, he was touched to give back all the illegal drugs in his possession, including a huge pack of cocaine worth US$1,500. "I called everybody to come for their things; I told them I did not want money from them again because I did not want to have anything to do with drugs," he said. Fahnbulleh has now joined the campaign to make Liberia a drug-free nation, in consonance with the drug law of the Republic of Liberia.

Father jailed 6 yrs for killing his 9-month-old sick son with herbicide

BAUCHI — The Bauchi State High Court Number 10 presided by Justice Abdulkadir Hussein Suleiman has sentenced a father to six years in prison for administering chemical herbicide to his 9-month-old child. Counsel to the state Ministry of Justice, Mr Sha’awanatu Yusuf, earlier told the court that on June 6, 2013, the convict, Shitu Adamu of Zakshi village in Toro Local Government Area poisoned his nine-month-old biological son by administering herbicide chemical on him and as a result, the son died on the spot. He said the act was culpable homicide punishable with death contrary to section 221 of the penal code. In his evidence, the Police prosecutor, Sgt. Caiphas Adamu, told the court that the accused, who is a father of two, confessed to have committed the crime during investigation. He said his nine-month-old son was sick and his wife, who was four-month pregnant, took him to hospital. The Police prosecutor said his wife gave her husband a list of prescription, but he complained that he had no money at that time, so he administered a chemical herbicide on his son, thinking that it will cure the sickness, unfortunately the boy died. The prosecutor said the accused attributed his action to poverty and unemployment and regretted his action in his confessional statement. In her evidence, wife of the accused, Lantana Shitu, said she went to fetch water in a pond and when she came back, she saw that her son was vomiting and later died. She said: “I did not know what happened until three days later when our village head called my husband concerning the issue and he confessed that he was the one that poisoned his son with herbicide.” In his judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Abdulkadir Suleiman, said he considered the accused’s plea for leniency made on his behalf by his counsel. According to Justice Suleiman, “I have also taken into account that the convict is the first offender and appears to be remorseful throughout the trial. I hereby sentence him to six years imprisonment commencing from June 24, 2013, the day he was remanded in prison custody.”

It was just an hour after their withdrawal that the terrorists indaved the town, shooting everyone at sight and setting buildings on fire. So far 200 vehicles and thousands of houses, shops and an outfit of the Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) were all burnt”, he explained. A local government official who declined identification also confirmed the casualty figures. “It is really a terrible situation, we had wanted to rush relief materials to the area to provide temporary succor to the victims. But we were prevailed upon by security agents to shelve our plans on security reasons”. The official appealed to the state and Federal Governmenst to assist the area with resources towards rehabilitating the victims.

Either Jonathan goes to Sambisa forest or Shekau remains at Nyanya

BEYOND any thing we’ve ever seen in the past, Nigeria is today under the siege of terrorist insurgents. We are a besieged people. The yet unresolved abduction of nearly
250 school girls in Chibok earlier brought home loud hints of this. Last Thursday’s attack at Nyanya motor park confirms it beyond any doubt. With this confirmation the terrorists have placed two clear choices before President Goodluck Jonathan: either he accepts their invitation to visit their hideout in Sambisa forest or risk their permanent presence at his doorstep in Abuja. This puts the President between a rock and a hard place if he truly understands the import of this open challenge to his authority and presidency. But the choice is his- to respond to this ‘in-your-face’ challenge or go down in history as the worst politician yet to take up the tenancy of Nigeria’s seat of power. And if the President thinks he can continue to play the ostrich, holed up in endless meetings inside the presidential chamber when he is not on one of his interminable campaign rallies for 2015, events in the last several days during which Nigerians across the country and people in different parts of the world have demanded through street protests and the social network that the President stop seating on his hand- the rising calls across the world that he acts like the leader he is supposed to be, should tell him that he’s been mistaken all the while he thought he could drivel his way through the whole abduction fiasco in his usual manner. Mr. Jonathan must, hopefully, be coming to the sobering realization that there is more to being president than flaunting the unimpressive credential of being the fortuitous candidate of a ‘minority’ group or gorging oneself on cassava bread. Three weeks after Goodluck Jonathan sought to clear his thoughts of the nightmare of the Nyanya bomb blast that had claimed nearly 100 lives with even higher figures of the injured; three weeks after he thought he could cut off scenes of his dance macabre at a Kano campaign rally less than 24 hours after the Nyanya gory attack; indeed three weeks after the outrage of Chibok, thunder once more struck at the same place, when bombs shattered the fragile silence of Nyanya motor park and prematurely sent more Nigerians to their grave . This happened right under the nose of the heavily-armed troops which Jonathan as Commander-in- Chief had sent to secure Nyanya motor park! We have read of the traffic gridlock created by these troops in their efforts to keep Abuja safe from terrorist attack. Nigerians have had first hand experience of travelling in the direction of Nyanya and Abuja as a whole in the wake of the terrorist attacks and have unpleasant tales to tell of it all. The last thing they could have expected is another attack at the same place that is yet a crime scene under Jonathan’s ever watchful security personnel. But it happened, incredible as it might sound, telling us that the terrorists are set for a showdown with Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling cohort that have become hostage of their own shadows in the country’s capital. While they spurned the direct invitation to Sambisa forest that the Chibok abduction demanded, the terrorists have decided to take the battle to the oligarchs of Abuja. They know what cowardly blather is being spewed at Nigerians by the braggarts in power and are no longer ready to keep things on a low key. Like Elijah and the Prophets of Baal, the terrorists have issued an open challenge to Jonathan and the battle ground is Nyanya, not Mount Carmel or any other place Jonathan may choose to go. Jonathan and his men can not, must not ignore this challenge. They must either prove their presence in Nyanya and other places where the insurgents have taken over or they would have washed their hands off the safety and security of Nigerians. I have recently asked in this space if Jonathan can go to Sambisa forest. It didn’t look like he was prepared to even though that was an opportunity to let off his inhibitions about bringing down fire on the terrorists. Even when Chibok mocked his Janus- faced approach to fighting terror and made nonsense of his pacifist rhetoric, Jonathan continued to prove to Nigerians and the rest of the world that he is a politician incapable of making hard choices, that he is only fit to attend meetings where empty threats are issued. Jonathan might not have given a damn about offering excuses for the corruption in which his ministerial aides swim; he may not see any thing worthwhile asking questions of his footloose ministers who continue to pile up hundreds of thousands of carbon footprints in extravagant air travels; the President may surely not see any reason why he should be expected to be firm against terrorism when politicians from the region most affected by terror all but invited it into their home and gave it a large room to grow. But he was the one Nigerians made their president, the one millions through an electoral process, however flawed, invested with the presidential authority to act on their behalf. He it was who swore on oath to serve and protect Nigerians. It is to him Nigerians now turn for answer to the menace and curse of terrorism. He must do what he swore to do. It is neither a favour nor something he could choose to do or not without losing the basis of his present position. This is his duty, his manifest destiny as the Nigerian president. President Jonathan must know that as president he carries the fate of Nigeria in his hands. He has failed up to this point to meet the expectations of the people. Like a confused child he has blundered his way through many fateful events. He must give up his childish ways and begin to act like a true parent aware of his responsibility by his children. The power he has must be exercised in the service of Nigerians as a matter of course. He cannot continue in the same helpless manner he has so far maintained his presidency like someone beholden to his aides, one who looks up to them like a child looks up to his parent in confusion. The forbidden territories of the Goodluck Jonathan presidency must be stormed. They must no longer stir fear in him or make him weak at the knees. Among the previous disasters of his presidency, Sambisa and Nyanya are proving the most tricky and dangerous. They are the immediate elephants in his room of dereliction. He must either go to Sambisa forest today or cede Nyanya to terrorists.

Jolie says Nigeria kidnappings ‘unthinkable cruelty’

PARIS (AFP) – US actress Angelina Jolie on Tuesday condemned as “unthinkable cruelty and evil” the kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria by Boko Haram Islamists. The star was speaking in Paris about the themes of her latest film “Maleficent” for Disney, in which she plays a vindictive fairy driven to curse an infant princess. “Sadly of course there is real evil in the world, you watch the news and you see all of the people suffering and so much cruelty,” she told a news conference. “And it’s unthinkable cruelty like these girls that were kidnapped in Nigeria. Unthinkable cruelty and evil,” she said. A total of 276 students were kidnapped in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state three weeks ago when Boko Haram stormed their school under the cover of darkness and loaded them onto trucks. Several managed to escape but over 220 girls were still being held, according to police. In a video message obtained by AFP on Monday, Abubakar Shekau, the head of the Islamist group which has killed thousands in a five-year uprising, said it was holding the girls as “slaves” and threatened to “sell (them)”.

Lanre Nzeribe Blasts Monalisa Chinda: “She Is An Incompetent Liar”

The romantic and business relationship between Nollywood actress, Monalisa Chinda , and her boyfriend c*m business partner, Lanre Nzeribe, may have broken down irretrievably, but the echoes of the love gone sour still reverberates as Lanre, known for his serial philandering, has labelled her an incompetent and useless liar. Lanre, who has, in the past past, been linked romantically with the likes of Stella Damasus and former NTA big girl, Grace Egbagbe , released a statement which insinuates that the actress lied about the circumstances surrounding her departure from the lifestyle and fashion magazine they founded together which bears her name, ‘ Monalisa’ . Speaking about the break-up, Lanre said that Monalisa misrepresented the facts and that she did so in bad faith to deliberately dent the image the brand. He also noted that the “professional irreconcilable differences” stated by Monalisa Chinda as reasons for her exit were nothing but blatant lies. The statement reads in part: Both parties never had any professional differences as the party involved had little or no idea as to how to run the business. The chairman (Lanre Nzeribe) was the major shareholder of the company. We can assure you that the chairman started the business with his resources, without a dime or contribution from Ms Monalisa Chinda. Monalisa is a cheap, incompetent and useless liar. We hope we have heard the last of this romantic mess

Abuja Pastor Killed My Wife with ''Holy Water'' – Husband Cries

A bereaved husband is battling the pastor of a spiritual church in the Ajegunle area of Mpape, Abuja: The man's wife was confirmed dead on Monday morning after drinking power water given to her by the pastor. A resident of the area said the women went with her friend to get the power water in the pastor’s house in the morning and that the pastor gave the water to the two friends for cleansing. “The surviving lady told us that the pastor is known to be able to cure many diseases with his power water, so that morning the deceased went to the other girl’s house so that they can go to the pastor’s house to get the power water. “As soon as she drank the Power Water, her eyes started bulging; she started vomiting blood and died instantly."According to a source, the other girl narrated that when they got to the pastor’s house, they knocked and the pastor came out with the power water, she drank as the pastor commanded, then she handed the remaining water to the deceased, who also drank. But she started exhibiting strange signs and died. The Mpape Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Abayomi Surajudeen, confirmed the death and say it is unfortunate. He added that the case has been transferred to FCT criminal investigation department. FCT Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, said it is true that a lady died after drinking holy water popularly known as power water given to her by the pastor but said nobody can prove that the lady died as a result of the power water because nothing happened to the other lady, who drank the same water with her. She said, “We cannot be able to prove that the lady died as a result of the power water. Two ladies went for the water, both of them drank from the same bottle and the one who drank last died, does that mean that the water killed her? As a matter of fact, she left the pastor’s house hale and hearty after drinking the power water, and when she got home, she started complaining of stomach ache, before she could be rushed to the hospital, she died.” The FCT police spokesperson said that maybe they branched somewhere and ate something while returning from the pastor’s house and that it would be unfair to accuse the pastor of causing her death. He however said they are investigating and that the findings would be made public when concluded. But the woman's husband is not taking any of that, he said the pastor also collected a lot of money from them.

GBEGE!!! Yvonne Okoro Disgraces Iyanya Over Yvonne Nelson

It seems most Ghanaian actresses are up in arms against Nigerian singer, Iyanya Mbuk, over his love gone sour with Yvonne Nelson. The latest actress to join the fray is Nigerian/ Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro, who gave Iyanya a very serious attitude at the just concluded Ghana Music Award, for having the effrontery to use and dump her colleague in what she believes was a very callous way. According to an industry source, the Kukere master had a bad time at the Awards when he made attempts to dance with Yvonne Okoro while performing. We gathered that after some awards were given out, it was Iyanya’s turn to perform and while performing his hit song, Your Waist, he invited Yvonne Okoro to join him on stage and ‘wind her waist’. But to his surprise, the pretty and voluptuous actress declined and was heard whispering to close friends that if Iyanya should get close to her, she would give him a resounding slap. She reportedly said: Look at this fool. So he thinks Ghanaian actresses are playthings for him. Let him come close to me and I will land him a dirty slap . As much as Iyanya kept urging her to join him, she declined and when the shame was becoming to much for him to bear, she reportedly got up reluctantly and joined him just for a few minutes and even at that, she did not spend up to two minutes before she went off the stage. So much for hurting one’s colleague….. nawa oooooo see annoyance…taking pain killer for anther’s headache. what do you have to say about this?

Boko Haram abducts 8 girls in another Borno attack

No fewer than 8 teenage girls between the ages of 12 to 15 have been abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in
Warabe village of Gwoza Local government area of Borno state. The gunmen also carted away foodstuff and livestocks belonging to the villagers before fleeing into the bush. Gwoza is about 160 kilometres from Maiduguri the state capital. The council had witnessed series of attacks by terrorists in recent times. A resident of Warabe village, Mallam Bello Umar in a telephone chat confirmed the incident, pointing out that he was a resident of the village before he ran and settled in Gwoza following the increasing cases of Boko Haram attacks in Warabe and other neighbouring villages in Gwoza council area. File: Abducted girls ” A group of terrorists invaded Warabe village on Sunday night, abducted 8 of our teenage girls before carting away with our foodstuffs and livestock. “As I am talking to you know, I have ran to Gwoza council headquarters, and even in Gwoza, we are restricted around the council secretariat due to the fear of the terrorists. The situation is so pathetic as almost all Gwoza people including villagers who came for safety are only restricted in a safer zone close to the council secretariat where there is enough presence of security personnel”, Bello said.

Man dies in romp at Ebonyi varsity girls’ hostel

ABAKALIKI — A middle aged man (names withheld), yesterday, died in Abakaliki while having marathon sex with a female student of Ebonyi State University, EBSU, Abakaliki. The incident, it was gathered, happened at the girl’s hostel room near the Presco campus of the university. Sources at the hostel, where the incident occurred, said the man died in the day time inside the room of the said female student located at Goddy Ogbaga Avenue during a marathon sex with her. It was gathered that the lover-girl, after the incident, took the body of the deceased to his car before she proceeded to report the incident to the police. She was immediately arrested and is currently helping the police in the investigation of the incident. A hostel resident, who did not want his name in print, told Vanguard: “It threw the entire hostel residents into confusion as everybody began to run helter-skelter to evade police arrest. Some of the hostel residents have been arrested by police.” “I did not know what was happening until when police stormed our hostel and began to arrest everybody on sight. But from what I heard the man visited the girl and in the process of making love, he died. “I cannot say for sure if the man was a mere acquaintance to the girl or not. All I can say for sure is that I have not been seeing the man visiting the girl in the past. “I don’t know the girl very well because our hostel is very large. It is a three-storey building and many students are living there. I do not know who is who except my friends. So I don’t know the name of the girl, department or her level in school.” Police spokesman in the state, ASP Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the incident but said he had not been fully briefed on the incident.

N10bn jet scandal: Reps stall hearing on Alison-Madueke’s suit

ABUJA— Failure of the House of Representatives to honour the summons issued against it by the Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, stalled hearing on the suit by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. Trial judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed had, on April 29, directed the lower House to appear before him yesterday to explain the origin of the restraining order it said stopped its Public Accounts Committee, PAC, from investigating allegation that the Minister spent N10 billion on chartered private jets. Members of the committee, led by its Chairman, Solomon Olamilekan, had at a press conference held on April 28, said they were served with a restraining order from the court, stopping further investigation into the allegation against the Minister. They accused the judiciary of attempting to usurp their oversight function, saying they would suspend the investigation to study the said restraining order with a view to responding accordingly. Minister, NNPC, court deny order However, the Minister and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, who are the plaintiffs in the matter, had since denied serving any restraining order on the House, even as the court also denied issuing such order. Consequently, Justice Mohammed, on the last adjourned date, summoned the House to “come and clear the air” on whether it was actually restrained from going ahead with the probe. At the resumed sitting yesterday, though the National Assembly, which was joined as the 1st respondent in the suit, was represented by its lawyer Mr. Yakubu Mikyau (SAN), no lawyer appeared for the House of Representatives. However, both Mikyau and Madueke’s lawyer, Mr. Etigwe Uwa (SAN), told the court that they earlier received a call from Mr. A. B. Mammud (SAN), who said he had been briefed by the Speaker of the House but was yet to receive copies of the relevant court processes. Though Madueke’s lawyer urged the court to take decisive action against the House for “disrespecting the direct orders of this court,” Mikyau, pleaded with the court for a short adjournment on behalf of the House. ‘House must appear in court’ In a short ruling, Justice Mohammed insisted that the House must appear before him to explain where it got the said restraining order from. “Is it not in everybody’s interest to know what document the 2nd defendant relied upon to make a press statement that it was stopped by this court?” the judge queried. “In the interest of justice, I will excuse the absence of the 2nd defendant in court today, believing that as a responsible arm of government the 2nd defen-dant will appear on the next adjourn date,” he added. The matter was subsequently adjourned to May 26, even as the court directed that fresh hearing notice be served on the House. The suit In the suit, the plaintiffs are praying the court for an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants, whether by themselves, their members, committees or agents from summoning or directing them to appear before any committee, particularly the PAC, which was set up by the House to conduct the investigation. They are also seeking an order of the court stopping the committee from asking any official of the ministry or the NNPC to produce any papers, notes or other documents or give any evidence in line with a letter from the House dated March 26, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. More so, the plaintiffs are urging the court to issue an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants from issuing a warrant to compel the Minister’s attendance, or the attendance of any official of the ministry or NNPC with regard to the investigation and to also in the alternative, make an order of status quo, directing the parties to maintain the current position with regard to the investigation, as of the date of filing of the suit.

Omisore threatens to sue Aregbesola for calling him ex-convict

OSOGBO—PEOPLES’ Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the August 9 election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, yesterday threatened to drag Governor Rauf Aregbesola to court over a statement allegedly credited to Aregbesola that he (Omisore) was an ex-convict. But Governor Aregbesola dared Omisore and challenged him to go to court if he was dissatisfied with the statement. Reacting to Omisore’s threat through the Commissioner for Information and strategy, Sunday Akere, Aregbesola said Omisore was free to go to court on any issue, saying it was an attempt to distract the government. In a letter by Omisore’s Lawyer, Mr. Kehinde Adesiyan, in Osogbo, Omisore described the statement allegedly credited to Aregbesola as a “reckless outburst.” Aregbessola was quoted to have described Omisore as an ex prisoner during a politically rally recently in the state. However, Omisore called on the Governor to apologise to him formally or face legal action, arguing that the action of the Governor was unexpected of a political office holder like him. The letter dated 30th April, 2014 reads in part “you may wish to be advised that the fact that you are today a Governor does not mean that legal action cannot be taken against you on civil action. Omisore advised Aregbesola to retract the statements allegedly credited to him in his own interest before he was dragged to court. “Senator Omisore was only detained in Agodi prison during his prosecution for alleged role in the death of Chief Bola Ige. He was later discharged and acquitted by a competent court.” Omisore’s case cannot be compared with that of the National Chairman of your party, Chief Bisi Akande who was prosecuted and convicted and sentenced to a term of imprisonment by a competent Tribunal established by law in 1984″.

Human parts dealer issues price list in Lagos…says skull sells for N20,000

….Buys bones N2,000, intestines, liver for N1,000; resells N5,000 LAGOS — Emotion ran high, yesterday, at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos after a 54-year-old grandmother told a bewildered crowd that she sold human skull for N20,000. The suspect, Sukuratu Salami, who was paraded alongside a cemetery guard and two others, were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Joju area of Sango Ota, with a human head, intestines, bones, kidney and other human parts. Salami, who admitted to have been into human parts business for a year, said she started as a herbs dealer. Greed Narrating how she ventured into the business, the mother of three said: “A herbalist approached me last year and demanded for human parts. When he told me how much they buy the parts, I was tempted. “I approached one Tantoloun, who works in a grave yard. He sold a skull for N10,000 and I sold it in return for N20,000. Greed made me to continue until I was arrested. “I buy pieces of bones for N2,000, liver and intestines for N1,000 each and resell for N5,000 or more depending on the buyer’s bargaining power. “I am not a killer. I have never killed anyone. I only request for decomposed human parts. I needed the money to feed my three children of ages 30, 27 and 23 respectively. “Those who patronize me are herbalists and trado-medical practitioners. The parts are used to prepare concoction for sick children. So far, I have only sold 10 human skulls.” The suspects She promised never to go back to the illicit business again if left off the hook. On his part, the cemetery guard, Rasheed Tantoloun, from Oyo State, said he usually dig dead bodies out of their graves with the aid of one Ibrahim, whom he hired. He alleged that his employer instructed them to exhume dead bodies that have stayed long in order to get spaces for fresh ones. He said: “Anytime old corpses are exhumed, we usually collect the parts and sell to ready buyers who are usually agbo sellers (herbs dealers). “My salary is N5,000 a month but since I started doing the business, I made three times more than the amount. We also dug corpses buried without caskets.” Another suspect, Waheed Ibrahim, an Arabic teacher, said he was paid N3,000 for exhuming dead bodies. According to him, “we usually tamper with dead bodies buried without caskets and those whose relatives never showed up after burial. My job is to exhume and dismember the bodies and at the end of which I would be paid N3,000.” How they were arrested The suspects reportedly met their waterloo after operatives of SARS, who got wind of their alleged dealings, posed as buyers. The state Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, who paraded the suspects, said the command took interest in the case following the mysterious disappearance of persons. According to him, “detectives led by the SARS commander, Abba Kyari, posed as buyers and bought a human head from Salami at N120,000. “After arresting the suspects, Salami’s house was searched during which a human head, liver, intestines and other parts were found. We picked interest in this case because of the disappearances of people. With their arrest, we hope that we’ll get to the root of these disappearances. “We discovered that most of these bodies are fresh. It is criminal to deal in human parts. A few weeks back, Soka Forest was discovered in Ibadan. As you can see, this crime happens all over.”

Charly Boy, who spoke at his residence on Monday in Abuja, said his father lived a fulfilled life “so there is a great need to celebrate him’’. He urged Nigerians not to sympathise with him rather “they should join in celebrating a life well lived’’. “My father was a good and great man, though we did not start off well because in the beginning he always felt I was too rascal. “ I did not obey orders and I got tired of his rules, regulations and restrictions so it was important that I go my own way. “I thank God I did that because at long last since the past 25 years; I won the kind of respect I deserved from the man who thought that the direction I took was a wrong move.’’ “For the past 25 years, we bonded and I am proud to have had a father like him. Charly boy said that his father brought him up on a strong `overdose’ of morals, values, principles and how to be contented and be at peace with oneself. “I will continue to apply these virtues to my life.’’ Mr Mike Okiro, a retired IGP, one of the sympathisers at the Oputa’s residence, described the late justice as a rare nugget. Okiro said that his death was a big loss to the family, the judiciary and the country. He said that late Oputa was a legend, especially in the judiciary, who was recognised internationally and would be missed greatly. “He was a great man and he lived a very good life worthy of emulation,’’ he said. A musician, Daniel Wilson, who also condoled with the family, described the late Oputa as a rare gem that lived a great. He said his memory would live on. (NAN)

Led-in-evidence by Lagos State Attorney General, Mr. Ade Ipaye, the prosecution’s witness (PW2), Sgt. John Babalola, told the court that the said pictures were sent by the 1st defendant (Nwabufo) from his Blackberry phone to his laptop. “After we discovered the picture, ACP Dan Okoro, the Area Commander, asked that additional statements be made based on picture. The statement was signed by the 1st defendant. When the 1st defendant was arrested, he confessed that he knew what he did and that everything was over. The 1st defendant sent the picture to his laptop through his Blackberry phone. The 1st defendant operated the Blackberry phone to show us (police) the chain used in tying the deceased. Based on his confessional statement, PW2 told the court that he and his team followed the 1st defendant to his home in Festac and recovered the said laptop, phones and various network SIM cards. Babalola added: “On that same date, the 1st defendant was asked to open the laptop, which he carried by himself to the Area Commander’s office, and he was asked to open the said laptop. I and one ASP Marian were there and we saw the picture of the deceased lying down and her international passport on her chest.” Another prosecution’s witness (PW1), Insp. Joseph Edo, during cross-examination, maintained that from his investigation, he discovered that the 4th defendant (Nonso) received stolen phones from the 1st and 2nd defendants on three occasions. “The 4th defendant took me to Ladipo market where he stole somebody’s receipt which he used in selling the deceased’s phone to somebody in Port Harcourt and the person was arrested. He bought the phone for N30,000 and sold for N40,000. He also knows that his elder brother does not deal on phone. He confessed that he gave the locked phone to a phone repairer who flashed it for him,” Edo stated. The witness informed the court that there was another investigation against the defendants, in two hotels (Chelsea Suit and Penny Hotel), where they were alleged to have carried out similar act.

How A ‘Prophet’ R@ped A Woman In Order To ‘Heal’ Her Stomach Problem!

In the latest round of unbelievable, un-Godly things that some pastors have been doing lately, Lungile Ncube, supposed prophet of the Twelve Apostolic Church, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, stands accused of r@ping a woman he was supposed to be helping with her stomach problem. , . According to My Zimbabwe News Online, when the 32-year-old Ncube appeared before Sikhumbuzo Nyathi recently, the bemused Regional Court Magistrate heard how the prophet had supposedly prophesied that the 23-year-old woman was suffering from stomach problems and her husband would soon be involved in an accident at work. The prophet then offered to come to the house of the woman and help her to pray for healing, according to the alleged victim of the r@pe. Ncube is denying that he violated the young woman when he went to her house on Janaury 28th, the day after he supposedly received a revelation that she needed his help in order to be healed. However, the distressed young woman insisted in court that Ncube used guile tactics to weaken her defenses and put her faith and trust in him. According to the woman, Ncube, who is also a neighbor, came to her house in the early morning while her husband was at his place of employment, a local mine. Ncube then proceeded to persuade the woman to drink a solution of three cups of water mixed with salt, then prepared a hot water bath for her to steam her body with, alleged the woman. The woman went on to say that Ncube then asked her to strip n***d and wash her private parts in the prepared water. However, the woman refused to do this as it didn’t appear to be a proper thing to do when they were all alone in the house together. Ncube allegedly allowed the woman to wash her private parts while he went outside. However, when he returned, he again insisted that the woman must strip to complete the healing process of rubbing soil, salt and mud all over her body. After having smeared the “healing mixture” over the woman’s b****t and legs, Ncube then asked the still embarrassed woman to bend over. Allegedly, this is when he quickly inserted his m*****d into her private parts, insisting that she would have to climax to achieve full healing. The woman later told her husband about her strange ordeal and they informed the local police.

Residents desert communities over cult clashes, killings

PORT HARCOURT— CULTISTS have taken over Aminigboko and Owerewere communities in Abua-Odua Local Government Area of Rivers State while most residents have fled the communities. A group, Niger Delta Youths for Positive Attitudes Change and Progress, has expressed worry over the situation. According to president of the group, Mr. Enisuo Emmanuel, residents had fled the communities because of incessant clashes between rival cult groups in the communities. He said that the situation had extended to Amnioko, Egonhan, Emesu, Obrowna and Okobor communities, in the Abua-Odua council. Enisuo, who appealed to the warring youths to sheathe their swords, said several lives had been lost to the cult clashes. He noted that the warring cult groups had taken over several parts of the communities, laying claim to them as their conquered territories. He enjoined the youths to take advantage of the various empowerment and training programmes being organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for youths in the region to develop their capacity and quit cultism. He urged security operatives, the state and Federal Governments to take urgent steps to end the killings in the area.

Oputa, one of the finest jurists on Nigeria’s Bench —Femi Falana

Justice Chukwudifu Oputa was one of the finest jurists to adorn the bench in Nigeria. Unlike these days when appointment to the Supreme Court is by promotion from the Court of Appeal, Justice Oputa was elevated from the High Court to the apex Court. Like many of his colleagues of the era, Justice Oputa contributed immensely to the golden era of the nation’s Judiciary. Through his judgments the jurist displayed deep knowledge of procedural and substantive law. He commanded the respect and admiration of judges and lawyers. Owing to his prodigious grounding in philosophy he was referred to by his learned brethren as the Socrates of the Supreme Court. His commitment to social justice was unparalleled. At a time in the 1980s the jurist allied with Justice Kayode Eso and Justice Andrew Obaseki to form a trinity of judicial activists who mobilised the Supreme Court to dispense justice to all classes of people even if the heavens would fall Upon his retirement from the bench, Justice Oputa continued to render useful service to his fatherland and humanity. His most celebrated assignment was the chairmanship of the Human Rights Violations Commission otherwise called the “Oputa Panel”. In a bid to cover up the brutal violations of the fundamental rights of Nigerians by the former military dictators, the Olusegun Obasanjo administration refused to release the report of the Oputa Panel. The greatest tribute that can be paid to Justice Oputa is for the Federal Government to release the Report of the Oputa Panel and proceed to implement the recommendations of the panel. For the legal profession, Justice Oputa should be celebrated for his incorruptibility and consistent defence of human rights, rule of law and democracy.

Strike: Federal health workers issue 15-day ultimatum

LAGOS — The Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, has threatened to embark on nationwide strike if Federal Government fails to implement a mutual agreement on workers welfare and condition of service. In a letter released yesterday, JOHESU said there was no going back on the strike threat, except the government released appropriate circulars to give effect to all the negotiated issues which includes reconstitution of boards of health institutions, staff promotion from levels 14 to 15 on the consolidated health salary scale for directors, and review of retirement age from 60 to 65 years. Failure to meet this demand will resort to total withdrawal of services starting from May 19, 2014, the group warned. The letter entitled: “Notice of 15 Days Final Ultimatum” addressed to the Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH, JOHESU listed their demands to include: Non-skipping of consolidated health salary skill, CONHESS,10, National Health Bill, Presidential committee report on harmony in the health sector and promotion of health professionals from CONHESS 14 to 15. Other demands are consultancy and specialist allowance, call shift and other professional allowances, implementation of 2008 Job Evaluation Committee report, re-constitution of Boards of management of teaching and other tertiary hospitals and appointment of ministers of health.

Suspected ritualist nabbed with three siblings in Lagos

LAGOS — A SUSPECTED ritualist was, weekend, apprehended at Iyana Iba market in Lagos for allegedly kidnapping three children. The suspect allegedly took the children, aged four, six and seven years, on the pretext that she wanted to buy biscuits for them. Speaking to Vanguard, the mother of the children, Mrs. Iyabo Lawal, said: “I was in the shop when the man passed the first time, I didn’t know he was monitoring my kids who were playing with my mother in her shop. “I was busy attending to customers and didn’t notice when my children followed him. I thought they were still playing in my mother’s shop, not knowing that a stranger had taken them away. “Some people, who saw my children with the man at the end of Iyana Iba road, questioned him on what he was doing with the children and he told them he was going to buy something for them. “When he could not answer the neighbours satisfactorily, they raised alarm and people gathered and started beating him. “At this time I had started looking for my children when someone alerted me that they had seen them with a man at
the other side of road.” Vanguard gathered that but for the intervention of mobile policemen attached to CTU Base 2, Anti Terrorism, Ikeja, the mob would have lynched the man. The suspect, who identified himself as Ihenacho and claimed to be a security man at Alaba International Market, refused to disclose what he was doing with the children. The suspect was later handed over to policemen from Ojo Police Division.
